What is Cholesterol
Background Information – What is Cholesterol.
Everyone’s heard of Cholesterol — It’s hard not to. It’s on the news, it’s on the TV, the radio, in newspapers, it’s talked about by friends and colleagues – and it’s in our magazines.
It also seems to be a selling point for foods and drinks – with products claiming to be “Low in Cholesterol”, or even “Lowering Cholesterol”.
So what is Cholesterol – It’s actually just a type of fat in your blood created by your liver. AND – you need it! It’s good for your brain, your over organs, and your skin. It helps keep everything running.
BUT – too much of it can be a bad thing. Cholesterol can build up inside your blood vessel, narrowing and restricting the flow of blood. Eventually this build up blocks the blood completely leading to a heart attack or a stroke.
This means you need Cholesterol – but in small amounts.
